First, we have to send our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to EVERYONE who has been impacted by the horrible storms of the past week…from our lakefront and lake area friends who have suffered property damage to our friends in Joplin and Central Oklahoma who are dealing with devastation beyond the imagination of most of us…we are all thinking of and praying for each and every one of you.

Now- about Grand Lake Fireworks….it’s coming.  Saturday, July 2nd, between the spillways in Disney, at dark thirty.  Be There!

Alrighty then – It’s Memorial Day Weekend at Grand Lake!!!

We (Grand Lake Fireworks) will be in Dripping Springs on Saturday, selling yummy BBQ sandwiches.  We will be on Warpath (KC Chiefs) houseboat, and should be anchored about 10:30am.  We will be there until we sell out of BBQ!  All the proceeds go to support this year’s show, which will be our biggest ever!

We also want to send a big Fireworks shout-out to our friends Jim & Paula Harbuck, who have very generously donated 2 Barges for this year’s show.  Many of you don’t understand all the different little things that go into putting this event on, and having barges donated is a huge benefit.  Thank You, Jim & Paula!

Lastly…be safe out there this weekend.  The lake came up almost 9 feet in 48 hours earlier this week.  That’s a ton of water (and stuff) coming in to the lake in a very short time.  GRDA has done an awesome job of getting the lake to safe level for the weekend as we are back below the 750′ elevation, and going down, as of Friday morning.

But, even with the lake level stabilizing, there is a bunch of stuff floating out there, so be careful and keep an eye out.  And, if you see someone that needs help….well then help them!

Grand Lake Fireworks, Inc is geared up for Saturday Night, July 2nd, 2011’s “Spectacular Fireworks Show” at dusk (9:30 ish pm).  A media event as well as a community celebration, the Grand Lake Fireworks Show will be simulcast on KITO 96.1 FM so tune in your radios starting at 5:00 p.m. on the 2nd of July.

The fireworks show can be viewed at the new GRDA Visitors Center in Langley,the Pensacola Dam, 3 Cherokee State Parks near the Spillways, on the water in the main channel of Grand Lake, and all along the shores of South Grand Lake.

Barges are in order and South Grand Lakers are filled with anticipation and excitement.  Signs are going up throughout Grand Lake, with advertising and press releases galore, radio broadcasts, interviews, commercials among five different radio stations, and the Board of Directors are meeting sometimes until the wee hours to make this event memorable.  The Grand Lake Fireworks Show has some surprises in store for this year for the literally thousands of spectators that viewed the public display last year.

Grand Lake O’ the Cherokee has an abundance of room for boats, and land galore!  After all, this is the Birthday of the United States of America.  As we are celebrating this historic holiday, it’s just one more opportunity to celebrate in our hearts the
thankfulness of belonging to such a God given lake at our finger tips and showing our pride in our communities.

However, it is NEXT SAT, April 9, 2011, when we will be at Langley Trader Days in the Langley City Park selling our Reasor’s Coupon Books, with all proceeds going to support our Grand Lake Fireworks show.

Hey Everybody!

First, thanks for the great turnout at Long John’s Big Meat Run and the support of all who attended.  John & Edie Sumner did a great job with the event, and the BBQ fundraiser was a great success for the 2011 Fireworks!

This is the 3rd year of our great event, and we are looking to make it bigger and better than ever.  As you know, we rely solely on you to help us provide a spectacular show for all the people celebrating the July 4th holiday on and around Grand Lake.  Through fundraisers and donations, we all make it happen!

This Friday, April 1st, Grand Lake Fireworks will be at Reasor’s in Langley selling Grand Lake 2011 Calendars.  We hope you stop by, say Hi, and make a donation to receive a beautiful Grand Lake calendar featuring the photography of Paula Silzer.  This calendar is filled with awesome Grand Lake photographs!

Then, on Saturday, April 2nd, we will be at the Langley Farmers Market selling coupon books from Reasor’s.  The way it works is you buy a coupon book for $5, use all the coupons, then send the last page of the book in to Reasor’s and they give YOU back $5! All proceeds from the sale of these books benefit Grand Lake Fireworks, but you actually get all your money back.  Now that’s a win-win!  These coupons are good until July, and have a total value of $50.00.

Also, local favorite Kenny Babb will be entertaining the crowd starting at 4 pm.

11th annual Long John’s Big Meat Run will be held March 11th 12 th & 13th at Disney. Ok. This run was started by owner of Sumner Machine Works, John & Edie Sumner, of Arkansas City, KS. SMW is a fab shop that specializes in custom hardcore 4×4 parts,visit www.sumnermachine.com for a full view of products & services.

This years run is expected to draw huge attendance as well as spectators.  This is a free event and all tire sizes are welcome.  Look for mild to wild, we are starting to see several competition buggies at BMR in the past couple years, these are worth the drive to see them in action. The Town of Disney is also showing their appreciation by welcoming the 4-wheeling families and clubs to their town with a variety of events planned.

Grand Lake Fireworks Inc. is having their BBQ and silent auction on March 11th starting at 2:00 pm.  We will be having our silent auction, and this year some items will go up for auction by our 4-wheeling friends.  We invite all fans and 4-wheeling families to come up and check out our auction and eat BBQ.  Disney is happy to welcome all fans and families in our town.
