Why Do We Celebrate July 4th?

As we are preparing for the 4th of July celebration, Grand Lake Fireworks, Inc. would like to remind everyone about the true meaning of this holiday, which is the celebration of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. If you have not read the Declaration of Independence in a while, it is still as relevant today as it was in 1776.

One of the most famous lines of the Declaration of Independence is:

We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

We are so thankful that we have the Liberty, (FREEDOM) to bring a few minutes of Happiness into your Lives.

Grand Lake Fireworks, Inc. believes that everyone in, on and around Grand Lake, residents and visitors, should be able to enjoy the 4th of July with a fireworks show. Our mission statement is as follows:

Grand Lake Fireworks Incorporated is an organization made up of individual volunteers from the South Grand Lake area. Its purpose is to provide and produce an annual fireworks display around the 4th of July to celebrate the birthday of the United States of America, and to show pride in the community.

Grand Lake Fireworks, Inc. brings together the resources of the South Grand Lake area that include area businesses, civic organizations, visitors, families and individuals who sponsor the fireworks event.

We are so grateful for the donations that we have received so far and we are looking forward to a great show.

Grand Lake Fireworks Fast Approaching!

GRAND LAKE FIREWORKS SATURDAY JULY 3rd

July 4th weekend will draw thousands of people to the shores of Grand Lake and AM Pyrotechnics, LLC has promised to provide Grand Lakers a spectacular fireworks show on July 3rd, 2010. AM Pyrotechnics was the winner of the Judges Grand Award for Artistic Excellence at the 2004 and 2009 PGI (Pyrotechnics International) conventions. Owner Aaron Mayfield was also awarded with the 2009 Rising Star of Innovation and Entrepreneurship from Missouri Center, a statewide recognition for his diligence, creativity and business development success. The Missouri Senate and House of Representatives also passed resolutions (SR-115 and HR-219) to applaud Aaron for his success. We are looking forward to a great fireworks show from Aaron and his crew.

The Fireworks show will take place at dusk and will be held between the two spillways on the water in Disney. This is a great opportunity for you to get together with family and friends and barbeque, swim, boat, check out the new Visitors Center and take a tour of the Pensacola Dam. Good locations to watch the fireworks show are the new Visitors Center in Langley, the Pensacola Dam-Langley & Disney, the three Cherokee State Parks-two by the spillways and the one by Pensacola Dam in Disney, on the water in the main channel of Grand Lake, or take the Cherokee Queen.

Grand Lake Fireworks Inc. is still taking donations for the show. For every $100.00 that is donated we can add another 8 inch mortar. For a $500.00 to a $1000.00 donation we can add something very special, but we don’t want to give away the surprise by telling you what it is. Any donation would be greatly appreciated. Grand Lake Fireworks is gearing up for the July 3rd fireworks show and we still need your help to make this show spectacular. For every $100.00 that is donated we can add another 8 inch mortar. The picture above is of a plaque that was purchased from the old owners of Rogers Cabins in Disney.  Based on research done in the area by the owner of the plaque, it is estimated that this advertisement dates to some time around the completion of the dam, the exact date has been difficult to pinpoint.

It looks like it was a festive, event filled weekend, culminating in “the most dazzling fireworks display scheduled in Oklahoma”.  Sounds like 4th of July weekend, 2010 to us!
